Chane Ki Dhal /Bengal Gram Dhal 

Bengal Gram /Chana Dhal -3/4 th cup 

Seasoning 

  • Ghee - 1 tblsp 
  • Cumin seeds-1 tsp 
  • Hing/Asafoetida -2 pinch 
  • Green chilly -3 chopped 
  • Onion -1 , chopped  
  • Tomatoes-2 chopped 
  • Garlic flakes -10 to 12
  • Ginger -1/2 inch piece
  • Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp 
  • Red Chilly Powder-1/2 tsp 
  • Garam Masala Powder-1/2 tsp 
  • Salt to taste 


Garnishing 

  • Coriander leaves -  few sprigs chopped 
  • Lime Juice -1 tsp (optional ) 


Method
Wash n soak Bengal Gram in water for about 3 hours . 

Chop onion, tomatoes 

Finely Crush green chilly , garlic flakes n ginger.

In a pressure cooker , cook bengal gram  dhal, along with turmeric powder till soft n cooked well . Cool n churn it well .Add salt . 

In a pan melt  ghee . add cumin seeds n  hing in it. stir for few seconds . Add chopped onion n stir well till it turns reddish brown . Add crushed garlic, ginger n green chilly n saute till it changes color . Add chopped tomatoes n cook till its mushy n raw smell goes . Add red chilly powder n garam masala powder . Stir for few seconds , then add the cooked dhal , salt n boil for  2 to 4 mts . 

 Garnish with coriander leaves n squeeze in lime juice . 

Note : The consistency of this dhal has to be a thicker than regular dhal
