Varahi/Barnyard Millet Flakes Masala Upma
- Varahi/Barnyard Millet Flakes .. 1 cup
- Salt to taste
Seasoning
- Oil..2 tsp
- Mustard seeds ..1/2 tsp
- Cumin Seeds..1/2 tsp
- Urid Dhal..1 tsp
- Hing /Asafoetida ...1 pinch
- Curry Leaves..1 sprig
- Turmeric powder...1/4 th tsp
- Green chilly ..2 or 3 chopped
- Onion ..1 chopped
- Tomato..1 chopped
Garnish
- Coriander leaves ..1 tblsp chopped
Method
Take the barnyard millet flakes in a wide bottomed vessel n just sprinkle water ... Millets are thirsty grains so it will swell n double the quantity ... mix well n keep aside ... no need to keep for long .. Meanwhile prepare the seasoning
in a kadai add oil ... splutter mustard n cumin seeds,add urid dhal n stir for a while , then add hing , curry leaves, chopped green chilles, n stir for a while ... then add chopped onion n fry it till transparent n then add chopped tomato n cook till mushy n raw smell goes ... Add salt n turmeric powder mix ... then add the water sprinkled Barnyard millet flakes n mix well ... switch off n garnish with chopped coriander leaves .
